The Most Expensive Car To Ever Be Auctioned

This August, at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance held in California, an extremely rare Ferrari will be auctioned for what could be a record-setting $45 million, or more. The 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, a sports model race car of which only 32 models were produced, is going to be auctioned by current owner Greg Whitten.

The $45 million price tag is going to trump the previous record owner for the highest car sold at an auction. In 2014, the 1963 edition of the same car sold for $38.1 million. Additionally, a private transaction has seen the 1963 version go for as much as $70 million, cementing the fact that this car is the most expensive on the planet.

The car in particular that Whitten is selling in August was previously owned by racer Edoardo Lualdi-Gabardi and jewelry designer Gianni Bulgari. It retains its original engine, gearbox, rear axle, and Series II body which is even more reason for this car’s price to be so high.

Ferrari has been known to have the most expensive models to be auctioned off, and it would not be surprising if millionaires are lined up to bid for this beauty.
