Disney Employees End Union Labor Strike

The happiest place on earth just got happier. Well, their employees did. After a long labor war between workers and Disney World, the park finally agreed on a 15 dollar minimum wage deal. Now, employees will be guaranteed a salary that can help make ends meet. While the race for 15 bucks an hour for everyone is still controversial, I’ll give it to the cast members at Disney, because they deal with so many park-goers on the daily.

Some employees reported having to live in motels or recycle used bottles in order to survive, but that won’t be the case anymore. The growth of the wage will begin by rising to $11/hour in 2018, and steadily up until 2021 where it will reach the coveted 15 dollar mark, stopping at $13.50 in the middle of the years.

There were nearly 10,000 unionized workers, and nearly 75 percent of them reported being satisfied with the 15 dollar an hour deal. For the U.S., however, this could incite or reignite the spark of other company employees to unionize for that same, increased pay. While Disney workers might deserve it, that doesn’t necessarily mean everyone else does, too.
