Breaking The Box Office On Labor Day Weekend

Crazy Rich Asians has been dominating the box office for three weeks in a row now. This time, the movie has broken Labor Day weekend records by raking in a whopping $30 million extra. This is the highest labor day weekend sale for a movie in the past 11 years, marking Crazy Rich Asians another movie for the history books.

The success of this movie in an American market is proving to show that the country’s population is open to seeing other ideals and cultures in action, which is a great step for Hollywood to be taking. In total, there’s $111 million domestically under this movie’s belt, exceeding production costs and analyst predictions for its performance. This just goes to show you that sometimes taking a risk for a movie (this one being an all-Asian cast) can really pay off in the long run.

The last film to rake in over $30 million during the Labor Day weekend was Halloween when it was released in 2007. We’ve already written an article once on its first-weekend successes, but the hype train for Crazy Rich Asians is not over yet, and while I have yet to see the film myself, these promising numbers make it more and more enticing to go watch.
