Your Favorite Service Just Got A $5 Billion Fine

It’s a sad day to be Google. The search engine superhero is being hit with a 5 billion dollar fine, as Europe sues them over for violation of antitrust laws and monopolizing the search engine market. When Google merged with Android, they combined their apps into one operating system. Additionally, the company allegedly tampered with Android hardware and created illegal restrictions and manipulating search engine results.

This fine comes after their recent 3 billion dollar fine in 2017. Both fines were imposed by the European Commission, but since the suspicious activity on Google’s end doesn’t look like its stopping, the EU has given the company 90 days in order to resolve its issues. This 5 billion dollar fine is a record-breaking monument in antitrust penalties.

While we all know that Google is out “go-to” for search engines, Android has been pushing these limits too far, completing knocking out any competitors on Android devices. Google was forcing Android phones to pre-install the search engine app, Google Play store, and more branded content that completely denies rivals from even getting their foot in the door.

It does look like the company will fire back, denying the claims in hopes to get the antitrust violations thrown out. This fine is the culmination of a three-year investigation into the company, and could seriously alter the market as tech stocks are at an all time high.
