Why Crypto Thrives In Wyoming

You may be surprised to hear that Wyoming is one of the most friendly states for cryptocurrency, an industry that thrives in the equality state.

In the last two years alone, Wyoming has passed 13 laws on blockchain, the underlying technology behind cryptocurrencies. These laws were all meant to protect blockchain innovation in the state, which has embraced blockchain perhaps more so than any other state. So, of all the places in the US, why Wyoming, which is home to under half a percent of Americans?

It turns out that Wyoming is the perfect place for blockchain to grow in the US, as lawmakers and lobbyists have noticed. Local politics in Wyoming is actually quite different than politics in most other states. The state’s politics are not as polarized as much of the nation, with a political environment pitting social conservatives against more socially moderate libertarians, both of whom see blockchain as an antidote to big government. Indeed, while blockchain and cryptocurrencies are for everyone, economic libertarians have latched onto the decentralized nature of blockchain far more strongly than any other single political demographic.

Wyoming simply provides a strong answer to the challenges of tight regulation in states like New York. Lobbyists have been flocking to Wyoming to promote their blockchain-friendly positions, and it’s been working out quite well for them. While Wyoming may be seemingly in the middle of nowhere, with nothing major happening, blockchain and crypto can actually thrive in such an environment. If you’re interested in launching a blockchain startup, Wyoming is calling your name.
