Watch Out For Holiday Job Scams

The Better Business Bureau has some tips to help you avoid getting scammed during a holiday job search.

Many people are looking for extra jobs during the holiday season and many extra-busy companies are looking to hire. The problem is that scammers take advantage of the holiday chaos to make a profit. So, you should be more cautious this time of year if you’re looking for a job.

The first thing you can do to avoid getting scammed is avoid job offers that appear too good to be true. If a job ad seems overly ideal, it’s likely not a real job. As such, the BBB suggests that if an ad offers ridiculously large amounts of money for a small job, ignore it.

Secondly, keep in mind that an employer will never ask you to pay upfront for an opportunity to get a job. This rule applies all year round, but it’s more common to see such a demand this time of year. If someone asks you to pay them for access to a job, turn away.

Lastly, never perform any tasks for any company before they actually hire you. Many scammers will try to pressure individuals into getting work done before going through legitimate hiring processes. This is just another way that scammers try to take advantage of people during a chaotic time of year for work.
