Small Business Week at The Better Business Bureau

The Triple-B is celebrating Small Business Week as they normally do: by spreading awareness.

The annual nationwide campaign brings attention to the plights which small American businesses face, and the role they play in local communities as well as the broader national economy.

Small businesses are undoubtedly the backbone of the American economy. Small businesses provide critical goods and services alongside jobs, and they often serve as a lifeline to local communities. The Better Business Bureau, in light of the risk of running a small business, has shifted its sights to scams which target these small businesses. Phishing scams present a particularly difficult challenge, as these scams involve the impersonation of government agencies or officials. These phishing scams target the personal information of small businesses and individuals. As such, these scams represent a threat to small businesses that rely on consistent, honest business.

Another serious scam which targets small businesses would be the ‘tech support’ scam, which contacts businesses with false claims of viruses. These scammers trick small businesses into believing that they are vulnerable to imminent problems, and that they need personal information immediately in order to combat the scammers. In either case, you’d do well to avoid these scams if you run a small business.
