Fitbit Expanding On Health Initiatives Following Lackluster Quarterly Report

Fitbit is planning on starting new initiatives with its flagship product, the healthcare-assisting smartwatch.

The new features are expected to come out quickly and greatly expand upon the services offered by Fitbit’s product.

Following a quarterly report that came up short of expectations, Fitbit is jumping in the deep end with some ambitious new partnerships and initiatives. Among these new initiatives there will be new sleep-quality trackers. Fitbit will also be used with Amazon’s Alexa to initiate exercise routines by voice command, among other voice-powered options. They will also be launching a new health-focused subscription program called Fitbit Premium.

These initiatives on the part of Fitbit are a part of a wider business plan. While these additions will certainly re-energize much of the company’s base customers, these additional services can be used to expand the company’s relationship with healthcare providers in the future. The new subscription option they’re offering could open the doors to new relationships between Fitbit, its customers, and healthcare providers.

Fitbit’s new Fitbit Premium subscription will cost $10 per month and will eventually gain coverage under their employer program. The subscription offer will allow Fitbit to mine consumer data and use it to provide personalized advice regarding things like sleep, exercise, and a healthy diet.
