Apple to Build New Work Campus in Austin, Texas

Today, Apple announced its intent to construct a new employee campus in Austin, Texas to the tune of $1 billion dollars. This new 133-acre workplace would be designed to house 5,000 employees to start, with projected capacity expanding up to 15,000, more than double the number of Apple employees on record in the Austin area. Apple has every intention of bringing in new employees to fill out that projection. Texas Governor Greg Abbott is excited at the prospect, calling Apple’s decision “a testament to the high-quality work force and unmatched economic environment that Texas offers.” Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook shared Abbott’s enthusiasm, saying “Apple is proud to bring new investment, jobs and opportunity to cities across the United States and to significantly deepen our quarter-century partnership with the city and people of Austin.”

Speaking of bringing opportunities across the United States, in addition to the Austin campus, Apple will also be opening smaller offices in multiple metropolitan areas. San Diego, Seattle, and Culver City will be home to condensed offices designed to hold around 1,000 employees each. Existing Apple offices in New York City, Pittsburgh, and Boulder will also be receiving an influx of hundreds of new workers over the next three years. Despite some current hiccups regarding China and iPhones, Apple seems to remain optimistic of its financial and employment futures.
