But according to them, there are more often than not a few ways you can avoid a breakdown. Make sure you check your thermostat regularly. Your thermostat needs fresh batteries every once in a while, and if it shuts down, so will your furnace. Also make sure your pipes are well insulated and open your drain on the outside, so the pipes don’t burst inside your home. Lastly, check your vent pipes outside your home. A few icicles aren’t a problem, but any blockage will quickly cost you a lot of money.
