The HVAC Industry Can’t Always Keep Up With Winter

While winter may be a great month for HVAC companies, it may not be a great time for you personally. In particularly cold winters, like this one has been in parts of the US, property owners are often faced with the reality of what the cold can do to your home. If you don’t want the heat in your home to go out during freezing temperatures, take some advice from HVAC professionals so you can keep some cash in your wallet instead of having to give it to them.

Even in places where frigid winters are a part of life, there are things you can and should do to avoid problems and keep your home warm. If your home’s air filter is greasy and/or dusty, you will have issues with your home’s heating. You should try to check your filter often, because it could be keeping your home a lot cooler than it needs to be. If you don’t want to end up paying for pricey gas bills or for expensive HVAC workers to fix your furnace, make sure to change your filters, as it is not hard to do.

When there is a cold snap that lasts for weeks, there are typically many incoming phone calls at your local HVAC company. But according to them, there are more often than not a few ways you can avoid a breakdown. Make sure you check your thermostat regularly. Your thermostat needs fresh batteries every once in a while, and if it shuts down, so will your furnace. Also make sure your pipes are well insulated and open your drain on the outside, so the pipes don’t burst inside your home. Lastly, check your vent pipes outside your home. A few icicles aren’t a problem, but any blockage will quickly cost you a lot of money.
