Spring is a Great Time to Clean Up Your Finances

Spring is an ideal time to take a close look at your finances. We are a couple of months into the new year, so take a close look at your budget. Make any necessary adjustments and check in with your goals.

Many Americans don’t regularly use a budget, so if you don’t have a money-spending plan that works for you, now is the time to get one. Check out popular smartphone apps that track spending automatically by tapping into information from your bank accounts and credit cards. If you have a lot of accounts and multiple credit cards, evaluate them for their usefulness. Consider dumping accounts that impose fees.

One way to simplify your finances right away is to cancel your subscription accounts. If you’ve gotten the promotional deal but are still paying the monthly fee because you simply haven’t gotten around to cancelling the account, set aside some time and take care of those details. It could put hundreds of dollars back into your household budget this year.

Look ahead to upcoming seasonal expenses, as well. Fall is months away, but this is an ideal time to start putting a small amount of money away for vacations and back-to-school costs. If you don’t already have a Christmas club account, start one now.
