Don’t Let Age Stop You from Starting a New Career

Not everyone thrives during retirement. While some feel that after working during their entire lives they don’t want to continue, others take a break and then start over.

82-year-old Hilary Forde-Chalkly recently graduated college with a degree in creative writing, and she is now working on a novel. Her husband, Syd, is a professional driver at the age of 79. He says working keeps him fit and agile.

The couple encourages retired people who think they may want to try something new to go for it. They agree that anyone who is bored at home should go out and get a job doing something that interests them.

Many retirees decide to go back to work part-time for extra income, but it’s also possible to pursue an entirely different career. Others continue to work indefinitely because they enjoy their profession.

After reaching full retirement age, you can earn an unlimited amount of money without worrying about having Social Security benefits reduced. Taking Social Security before full retirement age could reduce the benefit by as much as 30%.

If you are interested in going back to work or pursuing a degree after retirement, consult a tax expert and financial planner to learn about your options and how your choices may affect your retirement budget.
