VR Cameras Show Us Life Aboard International Space Station

See the inside of the ISS without braving the terrifying emptiness of space!

If you’ve been keeping up with virtual reality (VR) technology, then you’ll know now is an exciting time. VR technology has been making huge strides recently, and the technology is being applied in many industries, from urban design to video gaming. Now, our friends on the International Space Station (ISS) have something very exciting to tell us.

Astronauts aboard the ISS have been working on a VR project. About a month ago, TIME teamed up with Felix & Paul studios to launch VR cameras to the ISS. The project will allow viewers to see and experience one of the most exclusive places frequented by human beings. The project is being referred to as “The ISS Experience,” and during the coming year, VR cameras are set to provide intimate access and a “participatory experience” that will culminate with the first-ever filming of a spacewalk with VR. This is an unprecedented level of access to the sensory experiences of astronauts aboard the ISS.

The project produced its first VR scene on January 25th. Audiences will be able to see the inside and outside of the ISS from the immersive experience of VR by the time the project ends.
