The Twisted Politics Of “Dark Money”

“Dark Money” is a documentary just released in 2018 that seeks to explore the “ugly side” of finances when it comes to political smear campaigns. Documented as a “political thriller,” the film was created and directed by Kimberly Reed who wanted to expose the corporate influence that money has on America’s “so-called” democracy.

The film takes place mainly in Montana, but is a reverberating message that transcends just one location. It remains a commentary on our country as a whole and has received praise from Sundance Film Festival among other recognized film shows.

Additionally, the documentary focuses on Citizens United, a landmark United States Supreme Court ruling that said it was an impediment of free speech for the government to limit what both non and for-profit companies can give to political campaigns. This ruling paved the way for corporations to meddle in elections, effectively buying out politicians to keep them in their back pocket.

“Dark Money” isn’t a film that’s going to help you save money. It’s an experience that’s going to change the way you see life in regards to where corporate money goes to. Reed wants to expose another side of democracy to the citizens who praise the concept… to show that it’s inherently flawed in certain situations. Watch the playlist above for more information on the film and the impact it will have on the federal government.
