The FDA Is Heating Up The E-Cig Business

60 days. That’s how long the FDA is giving E-Cigarette providers to change their habits and curb underage use of their products. The growing utilization of E-Cigs and vaporizers in teens and young adults has now been labeled an epidemic, so the government is leaving it up to individual providers to find a solution before they decide to ban the product altogether.

Some of the biggest names in E-Cigs, like Juul, have come out with statements nothing that their products are not meant for anyone under the age of 21. In smoke shops, however, teens can buy them starting at 18 and they continue to fall into the hands of younger and younger kids. So far, there have been over 1,300 retailers and 5 main manufacturers that have been threatened by the FDA in specific for “perpetuating youth access.”

These five manufacturers, besides Juul, include Blu E-Cigs, Vuse, MarkTen, and Logic. If any of these companies do not submit an action plan to combat underage use within this 60 day time frame, they could risk having their entire business shut down as their products would not be FDA approved. The main economic issue at stake is that a lot of the profits these companies makes specifically comes from underage usage, so taking action against minors could potentially sink profits.
