Major Video Game Companies Under Investigation by UK Parliament

Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft are currently being investigated for consumer rights violations in the UK.

The big game-makers may soon be in hot water for violating the rights of online gamers. The Competitions & Markets Authority (CMA) announced and launched an investigation into their business practices on Friday. The allegations relate to online gaming and the accompanying contract terms, and whether or not they are fair for consumers. One such example would be the auto-renewal of certain subscriptions once they run out. Such allegations affect online gaming on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and their relevant online subscription services.

The CMA is currently calling on consumers who use any of the aforementioned services to share their experiences with the antitrust body. At the moment, the company has not made a decision as the situation is being investigated.

The CMA’s Chief Executive, Andrea Coscelli, stressed that “should we find that the firms aren’t treating people fairly under consumer protection law, we are fully prepared to take action.”
