Former Economic Adviser Alan Krueger Has Passed Away

Former Economic Adviser Alan Krueger has passed away at 58.

Mr. Krueger, among a long list of achievements, served as Chairman on the Council of Economic Advisers.

Krueger was a Princeton University Economist, who was regarded as one of the profession’s top experts when it came to the labor market. He was a professor at Princeton since 1987, and went on to serve in the Obama administration from 2011-2013. Before his time in the White House, Krueger also served as the US Treasury Department’s Assistant Secretary for Economic Policy. He also served as Chief Economist at the Labor Department for Bill Clinton’s administration. Beyond his time in the political spotlight, he was well known for his personal take towards economic and social reform.

“Over the weekend, America lost a brilliant economist, and many of us lost a dear friend[…] He saw economic policy not as a matter of abstract theories, but as a way to make people’s lives better,” former President Barack Obama said.

The New Jersey School reported Krueger’s death on Monday. His family divulged that he had died of self-inflicted injuries in his home. He is survived by his wife and two children.
