Facebook Has Revealed A New Privacy Strategy

As the bad publicity continues well into March, Facebook has revealed a new plan, which the company says is focused on users’ privacy. This week has seen more bad PR for the social media giant, as The Guardian reports that Facebook has been lobbying globally against data privacy laws.

The reports on Facebook’s global lobbying against data privacy seems particularly bad, although it follows a year of revelations and news that reflects poorly on the company. This report in particular highlights a secretive lobbying operation targeting legislators and regulators in over 30 countries, including all 28 EU member states. The focus was stopping new data privacy laws from passing.

Amid all the bad news, it would appear that Facebook is trying to rectify the problem, at least insofar as to calm the public’s concerns. The company has revealed a “privacy-focused vision for social networking” which includes several changes. Among them would be encryption in private messages, a feature commonly used in other apps such as Telegram and Facebook-owned WhatsApp. The other changes will also focus on private interactions over the social media service, and will include changes for safety as well as privacy.
