Facebook is facing accusations from all angles.

Italy’s competition watchdog is going forward with proceedings against Facebook. At the same time, George Soros has accused Facebook of working on the re-election of US President Donald Trump.

Facebook is no stranger to controversy. Now, the Italian competition watchdog is launching proceedings that could lead to a large fine against the social network. The proceedings follow what the watchdog alleges is non-compliance with a previous request they made. In 2018, the watchdog accused Facebook of not properly informing users of how they collect personal data and how they use it. They then fined the company 5 million Euros and asked them to publish a statement on the homepage for Italian Facebook. The watchdog reported that the company failed to do so on Friday.

Billionaire philanthropist George Soros has come out with his own accusations against Facebook. He alleges that the company is helping Trump win his second presidential run in November. He said that Facebook also helped Trump win in 2016, alleging that Trump and Facebook support each other and have some kind of reciprocal arrangement. Soros did not offer any evidence to substantiate his claims.

Soros and Facebook have long been enemies. When Soros made his comments about Facebook in 2018, Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg requested employees start collecting information about Soros’ finances in an attempt to launch a campaign against him. They even hired a PR firm to help them do so.
