Don’t Fall Into The Trap: Top Tax Scams To Watch Out For!

Keep Watch for Woeful Tax Scams

What could make tax season even worse then it already is? Getting scammed! That’s right; when it comes to tax seasons the thief’s are on the loose. You have to be aware because they are taking drastic measures to make sure they are scamming you for your money. So, what are some top tax scams to watch out for during tax season?

  1. Calls saying you owe money: A lot of times during the tax season people will call you and say they are the IRS and tax collectors. They begin to say you owe money and ask for personal information. A lot of times this happens particularly to older people who live alone and they give out their personal information, but don’t be fooled and don’t give any information over the phone!
  2. “IRS” comes to your house: Those who claim to be the IRS showing up at their doorstep have scammed millions of people every year. Don’t fall for it. Never give your information or go with anyone. To speak to someone about your taxes go to an authorized IRS location.
  3. E-mails: Again, do not give any personal information out unless you are at a designated IRS location. People send out fake e-mails saying “if you don’t pay your money that’s due then you will face a huge penalty.” People normally get scared in these situations and give out there information electronically thinking that it really is the IRS.

If you get any of these e-mails, phone calls, texts, or even people showing up at your home, you first need to know that the official IRS does not contact people these ways. They ONLY contact people through personal certified letters. So, beware and know the signs of being scammed during tax season!
