Better Business Bureau Reports Rise In Idaho Robocalls

If you live in Idaho and believe you may be on the receiving end of robocalls, you are probably correct, according to the Better Business Bureau.

If you ever pick up the phone and the sound is not a live person, you’ve answered a robocall. This doesn’t imply anything good or bad (yet). However, the BBB has joined several other agencies in reporting a significant increase in the number of illegal robocalls.

Robocalls have been around for a long time, as have robocall scams. Now, internet-powered telephone service providers have made it much cheaper to make calls from and to anywhere in the world. As such, it is an open market for robocall scams, and internet phone service options also make it easier to display a fake caller ID and avoid authorities. The US Federal Trade Commission has already launched over 100 lawsuits against many more companies involved in billions of illegal robocalls or “do not call” violations.

According to the BBB, over 2.4 billion robocalls take place around the world every month. Most are not illegal, but the official and impersonal appearance of a scam robocall can make them seem more legitimate. Be careful and suspicious of strange or unexpected robocalls.

If you know of a company that engages in illegal robocalls or scams of any nature, you can report them to the Better Business Bureau, as well as any applicable local authorities.
