A 200 Million Dollar Carnival

I’m sure a $200 million carnival would have some seriously entertaining spectacles in it, but we aren’t talking “The Greatest Showman” this time around. Carnival Cruise Lines has announced that they’re retiring their Carnival Triumph ship for a $200 million make-over so it can be relaunched in 2019. Joining the Sunshine line of cruise ships, you’ll have a chance to sail about the Carnival Sunrise when its done undergoing its upgrades.

This is not the first time Carnival has done something like this, as they previously turned their Carnival Destiny into the Carnival Sunshine. While it seems like upgrading another luxury liner seems irrelevant, let’s take into account that Carnival Corp. raked in second quarter revenues of $4.4 billion, with $489 million being in adjusted net income.

But its not all sunshine and waterslides for Carnival. Despite their recent launch of the Horizon, the corporation’s share price fell on lowered earnings-per-share projections for the year of 2018. This fall came most likely due to changes in fuel prices and a fluctuation in currency exchange rates.

When the Sunrise hits in 2019, it will venture from Virginia to New York before stopping down at the cruise capital of the U.S. in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Winter 2019 is when you’ll be able to catch the full experience aboard the Sunrise, so prepare yourself to set sail onto an all new Triumph (pun very much intended).
