Netflix Execs Receiving Raises for 2019

Netflix released a statement today detailing the new annual pay rates for its top executives. Both the company’s CEO Reed Hastings and content chief Ted Sarandos will be paid $31.5 million dollars. This will be achieved through a combination of a flat salary and stock options.

Of note is the difference in ratio between salary and stock between the two execs. To be specific, Hastings’ salary is weighted more on Netflix’s performance, as the majority of the $31.5 million figure comes from the $30.8 million he will receive in stock options (a boost from the $28.7 million he was receiving before). His actual salary is only $700,000. Sarandos, on the other hand, will receive a base salary of $18 million, with the remaining $13.5 million coming from stock options.

Despite the unusual balance of salary and stock, this is the first time that the company will be compensating both of its top executives equally. Staff members see it as a sign of how much the company values Sarandos, and it’s easy to see why, considering the constant stream of new shows and movies appearing on the platform on a regular basis.

While not quite as hefty as Hastings and Sarandos, Chief Financial Officer David Wells, Chief Product Officer Greg Peters and General Counsel David Hyman will also be receiving raises for 2019, though Netflix declined to disclose exact figures.
