MoviePass to Utilize Three-Tier Subscription Plan in January

Theatergoing subscription service MoviePass has been in a bit of hot water lately due to some less-than-stellar revamps to their service. This includes things like a massive cost reduction, which brought in a lot of business but nearly drained their coffers, and a decision to automatically re-enroll subscribers whose subscriptions lapsed, which made some folks upset. The newest trick in their repertoire is an overhaul of their subscription pricing.

Starting January 1st, 2019, MoviePass will begin using a three-tiered system for subscription options. $9.95 a month gets you the “Select” tier, which only allows a subscriber to see select big-release films, and only on certain days. $14.95 a month gets you the “All-Access” tier, which lets you see any movie you want any day you want, but only in standard definition. $19.95 a month gets you the highest “Red Carpet” tier, which gets you into IMAX and 3D movies, though unfortunately, you can only see one of these per month.

In addition to this new system, executive vice president Khalid Itum will be taking over the daily running of the company from the current CEO, Mitch Lowe, while Lowe focuses his efforts more toward long-term business strategies. Itum hopes these new tiers will win back some of the customers lost by recent controversies.
