How To Stand Out With Recruiters

The average job posting attracts about 250 resumes, so putting your best foot forward is critical if you want to land a good job.

In the last few years, recruiting and HR have become industries unto themselves. Screening has always been a brutal process when there is a high demand for certain jobs, but now companies can even use artificial intelligence in the screening process, leaving no room for human error whatsoever. CNBC spoke with several experts and came up with a few key takeaways.

  1. Your online presence matters. Everything is online now, and when you’re being considered for a position, you can be sure someone (or something) will be searching your name up. Artificial intelligence can much more easily crawl through your online presence and decide if you’d be a good fit or not.
  2. Make note of keywords in the job posting. Using the right keywords in your job application improves your chances of making it to the job interview.
  3. Be picky about “relevant experience.” Instead of listing all of your previous work and experiences, try to highlight the most relevant facts about your past. According to one talent and HR director, you should highlight previous jobs that match with the new job more closely.
  4. Highlight any special skills at the top of the resume. These can be the most attractive things you bring to the table from an HR perspective.
  5. Practice in front of a camera. Many companies are conducting digital interviews in place of taking resumes these days. Furthermore, practicing speaking into a camera will improve your interview skills, as you can see how you appear when you speak. This makes practicing with a camera also great as preparation for an in-person interview.
