Google Will Spend $1 Billion on NYC Campus

Google is planning on developing a $1 billion campus in New York City over the next few years. This new expansion will take up a large section of Manhattan’s West Village, part of the tech corridor along the Hudson River. Google, which already has a major office in Manhattan, is planning on utilizing two large buildings that make up 1.7 million square feet of the Hudson Square area to house its campus. This makes Google one of the city’s largest corporate occupants. The company plans to name the campus Google Hudson Square.

Google’s parent company, Alphabet, announced the expansion on Monday, with plans to have the campus completely ready by 2020. The campus will be the center of Google’s global business organization, as well as a collective of entrepreneurial and tech minds. This marks the second major company to announce an expansion into New York City, after Amazon’s deal to develop in the Long Island City area of Queens. The City of Greater New York has become the dominant region of the East Coast housing tech giants. Companies expanding from the West Coast are quick to occupy parts of the metropolis, which the city welcomes as major sources of tax revenue and jobs.
