Facebook Launched A Study On Trust

A recent study by Facebook has shed light on a few interesting facts regarding privacy and trust. Among the most significant findings is the fact that half of respondents are not confident about their online privacy.

Facebook has had a rough year when it comes to PR. The social media giant has held the spotlight amid scrutiny over data privacy and misinformation. Data protection has been a particularly sore spot for several social media platforms recently, with Facebook taking the brunt of the criticism. This study, which was commissioned by Facebook, comes one year after the Cambridge Analytica scandal. The scandal revealed the extent to which people’s data is being shared, as 50 million users’ data ended up being compromised.

The study reveals that 52.2% of those questioned were “not confident about their privacy on the internet.” Furthermore, the same figure was only slightly better last year, showing only a marginal difference in the public’s opinion over the last year. The study also reports that many people are taking some action as a result of their privacy concerns. 63.8% of respondents said they are more careful of which websites they visit due to privacy concerns. Just under 60% of respondents limit the financial information they store online for the same reason.
