Amazon Eyeing Airports for Amazon GO Stores

Need a quick pick-me-up snack before you board that flight headed to Cleveland for that business conference? Amazon is happy to serve.

Amazon is expanding into offline territory in a number of ways, particularly with their Amazon GO stores. Amazon GO stores are completely devoid of cashiers, and instead computer technology and AI handles everything within the store. Transactions are made via the Amazon GO app with efficiency and convenience being the two big highlights.

Amazon has been slowly rolling out Amazon GO stores in select cities around the countries, and it has been announced that Amazon is eyeing airports as the next area of expansion. It’s a smart move; when you’re running behind at the airport but want something to eat, chances are that the stores have some lines. Either you risk missing your flight, or you board the plane hungry. Neither scenario is ideal, and with the efficient setup of Amazon GO stores, neither will ever occur ever again.

A report from Reuters suggests that Amazon has been trying to convince Los Angeles International Airport and San Jose International Airport to allow them to secure spots at their respective airports, although no deals have been made so far. Despite this, Amazon GO in airports seems like an inevitability, as airports are easily one of the places that would benefit from a cashier-less store the most.
