Scanning Robot Rolls Around Walmart

In more than 50 stores, Walmart is rolling out a robot that checks inventory. This robot slowly rolls through aisles to scan for missing, misplaced and even mislabeled items.

This two foot tall scanning robot will be beneficial for replenishing inventory faster and saving time for employees. “Robots” taking over human tasks is not a new narrative, and one of the most common debates revolves around potential job loss for humans.

Walmart assures that this new technology will not affect employee head count and will actually help the employees do their job more efficiently. Now, employees are needed to monitor the data the robot disperses which potentially creates more jobs.

But, the question still remains…will robots decrease the need for human hands in the workplace?
