Walmart is testing dentistry and mental healthcare as it tries to move closer to offering primary healthcare services.

Walmart is opening a new clinic in Georgia. The clinic, called “Walmart Health,” will be the testing ground upon which the company will gauge its foray into the health services. The new clinic is already online and can be found at “walmarthealth.com,” where future patients can book appointments. It is likely that after the clinic opens, Walmart will push to expand it across the US. The location in Dallas, Georgia is set to open for business next month. The clinic is offering patients access to low-cost primary care, including care for mental health issues. The clinic will be located next door to a regular Walmart location and should be separate enough to give patients a sense of privacy.

According to Walmart Health’s website, the first appointments will take place on September 13th. Services rendered include primary care, dental, X-rays, counseling services, and audiology, among other services. As Walmart Health expands, it will likely start offering other services as well. Walmart is the largest retailer in the US, and is also one of the largest pharmacies, offering in-store prescription drugs at the majority of its US locations. The company claims that “health and wellness” services accounted for 9% of their sales last year, or $36 billion out of their total $332 billion in sales.
