Virtual Reality Is Being Used To Show Dangers Of Texting While Driving

The Dangers Of Texting While Driving

This school in Missouri is doing it right. Students at Belton High School are testing their texting and driving skills (or lack there of) with a virtual reality headset. The program has been dubbed the DWT simulation education program, and it’s an opportunity for students to see firsthand that texting and driving is extremely dangerous.

Here’s how it works: students hop into a car, pop the VR headset on, and are able to view a virtual road. They then simulate a driving experience, and see what happens when they try texting while driving. The program is proving that distracted driving causes major problems, including changes of speed, weaving, and running over virtual pedestrians.

Students finish the experience by signing a waver that they are choosing not to text and drive. Hopefully the simulator is enough to curb some texting and driving in the future.
