The Ins & Outs of Working from Home

Welcome to the wonderful world of working in your jammies.

Working from home has become a dream that has inspired many new websites, books, and memes. If you don’t believe the ‘memes’ part, you can Google it. However, there is a statistical reality to the new ‘trend’ of working from home. In fact, in many professions, it’s encouraged!

Working from home (or “telecommuting”) has long been hailed as a great way for companies to foster happier employees. It has also been embraced by governments as a means of reducing traffic congestion. As such, there are actually millions of opportunities to work from home!

Now, more that 8 million Americans work from home. If you talk to most of them, they love the freedom it gives them. To find a job that allows you to work from home, it’s easier if you first research opportunities in your own field that would grant you the opportunity. You can then use sites like FlexJobs that specialize in these kinds of jobs postings. In fact, Forbes has even published a list of the companies that offer the best work-from-home setups. However, you should be aware that because these jobs are so sought after, there are scammers that take advantage of work-at-home offers and are on the prowl for new victims. A lot of these scams show warning signs however, and they are usually rather obvious irregularities, such as receiving a check well before your work has begun. FlexJobs can be used to avoid the less reputable ads and scams.

If you are in the customer relations field, or a field that generally requires you to sit in a cubicle all day, then there is usually no reason for you to not be able to do the job from a desk at home! Try looking at FlexJobs or do some research into the work-from-home options in your field.
