Snap A Pic And Let Amazon Do The Rest

Yesterday, the big news was that Sirius XM and Pandora were teaming up in a huge buyout, but today it’s Amazon and Snapchat. The two companies are polar opposites. One is a social media application used for sending disappearing pictures and the other is the largest online retailer in the world. So what would a partnership between the two look like?

Using your camera lens on Snapchat, you’ll be able to quickly point your phone at an object you want to buy (maybe at a friend’s house) and it will quickly do a search on Amazon. Not only that, but the app will scan barcodes for even faster, more accurate results. An option to purchase the item or a list of similar items will appear on your screen. If you’re credit card is already stored on your phone… boom! The purchase can be made right then and there. Talk about dangerous impulse shopping.

Snapchat has about 300 million monthly youth users. This is the main audience that Amazon wants to tap into, as they are more likely to buy items they don’t need because they see a friend owns them. Amazon is simply making this an easier process. The venture could very well increase Amazon sales to even new heights.
