PlayStation 4 Approaching 100 Million Sales

The good news doesn’t stop rolling in for Sony. After an excellent year, 2019 is expected to see Sony’s PlayStation 4 reach its 100 millionth sale. Furthermore, multiple PlayStation 4 games have become big sellers, picking up awards along the way. Going forward, the gap in sales between the PS4 and its competition is expected to widen as the PS4 continues to grow and produce more big-name games. Since its launch in 2013, the PS4 has sold over 92 million units.

November of 2018 was a big month for the gaming industry. The PS4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One were each projected to sell over a million units. The same month saw the gap in sales between the PS4 and its competition widen, and the PS4 has currently sold almost 3.8 million more units than the Xbox One, the PS4’s primary competitor.

PlayStation’s success in the console market is multi-faceted. While the gaming industry remains healthy across the board, PlayStation has a few features that set it apart from its competition. Among the consoles most highly regarded features, there is the PS4’s recent series of PSVR (PlayStation Virtual Reality) games being released for the platform. Going into 2019, the VR gaming industry is also expected to expand. However, by the time Xbox One catches up with the PS4, it is expected that Sony will have released the PlayStation 5, solidifying Sony’s position as leader in the console gaming market.
