Petition to Cancel Brexit Gets Over 5 Million Signatures

As of Sunday evening, the petition that seeks to cancel Brexit at the last minute has collected over 5 million signatures.

This doesn’t imply that there will be any sudden, significant change of direction. However, the petition has followed a recent trend across the pond: the closer Brexit comes, the more Brits are against it.

Hundreds of thousands of anti-Brexit protesters marched through London on Sunday. Parliament is set to meet next week, when they will discuss alternatives to Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit deal. The House of Commons already decided to delay Brexit after failing to come up with a new deal.

The petition in question urges Prime Minister May to remain in the European Union by revoking article 50, which went on to accrue upwards of 5 million signatures. The petition is backed by many public officials opposed to Brexit, including London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Scotland’s Nicola Sturgeon.
