Parents Name Baby After Col. Sanders to Win $11k

Back in the beginning of September, Kentucky Fried Chicken announced an unusual contest: they would pay $11,000 to any parents who agree to name their September 9th-born child “Harland” in honor of Colonel Harland Sanders, the restaurant’s founder and longtime mascot, as well as his date of birth. The winner of this contest has finally been revealed, though somewhat unexpectedly, it’s a baby girl.

Little Harland “Harley” Rose was born on September 9th of 2018, weighing 8 pounds and 1 ounce and measuring 21 inches. The $11,000 will be awarded to Harley’s parents to be used as her future college fund, a decent starting sum. Incidentally, the choice of $11,000 is a nod to the restaurant’s famous blend of 11 herbs and spices used in their chicken’s preparation. The contest was apparently created due to the fact that “Harland” has become a much less popular name since Colonel Sanders’ time, and they decided to attempt to remedy that in his honor. This event will likely go on to be the subject of a very unusual conversation later in Harley’s life.
