Hurricane Dorian is wreaking havoc on the Northern Caribbean and is now moving quickly towards the US.

Monday saw many airlines cancel flights to Miami and Fort Lauderdale as Hurricane Dorian comes at Florida’s east coast. Labor day saw almost 1,400 flight cancellations, according to flight tracking service FlightAware. Flights are being cancelled in several parts of the US Southeast, with Florida airports remaining the hardest hit. For the flights that were cancelled for Tuesday, nearly half were headed to or from Orlando International Airport. The central Floridian airport is normally the destination for tourists, but the airport went so far as to cease commercial operations at 2:00 AM on Tuesday. Orlando International even had plans to close down for Labor Day, which were cancelled, but the boards were teeming with cancellations.

Apart from Orlando International, several Florida airports have heavy ongoing flight cancellations. Fort Lauderdale International was the second most affected airport with 284 flight cancellations for Tuesday. Miami International and Palm Beach International are the next most cancellation-afflicted airports, in that order. Passengers traveling to or from any of these airports in Florida are advised to check with their airlines for flight status updates or any rebooking needs. Airlines suggest that you use their websites for booking changes or finding information as much as possible, as the airports are mostly full and the phone lines are overwhelmed.
