The Nintendo Switch is the fastest selling console of the current generation, according to Business Insider. Nintendo is doing well in broad terms, but there are a few reasons why Nintendo is still dominating video games.
2018 was a great year for Nintendo. The gaming superpower sold more games than any other game publisher last year. The company is also responsible for six of the twenty best-selling games of 2018, which were all Nintendo Switch exclusive games. The reason for this success is likely due in large part to Nintendo’s alternative approach when compared to other big gaming companies. While Xbox and PlayStation’s respective parent companies are focusing heavily on branding, Nintendo is riding the wave of mobility and convenience. The Nintendo Switch is more accessible, portable, and thus (arguably) more generally enjoyable.
Nintendo has long held a reputation as a quality game creator, but the company has made a few missteps over the years. The Wii U fell short of expectations, but it seems that the new Nintendo Switch will put the company back on its feet.
