Is Your Business Making You Ill? Here’s What You Need To Know

Many business owners pursue their passions with such dedication that it causes them to neglect other parts of their lives. In some cases, the cost of a successful business is deteriorating health, which otherwise could’ve been addressed. Everyone makes their own sacrifices to achieve what they want out of life. However, it doesn’t always need to be so difficult.

Take the example of U.S.-based luxury travel firm Virtuoso. Virtuoso is focused on exciting and intense travel packages for their clients. Unfortunately, this can also mean that employees could find the job experience to be a bit nauseating. The work requires travel, which many people love, but many long-time travelers know it can be hard on your health. Virtuoso CEO Matthew Upchurch has been working on his business for three decades, and while he originally loved the travel (and still does), he started to notice that it was negatively impacting his health. He eventually found himself in the emergency room due to a panic attack, at which point he decided that what he needed was a change in tactics. He started focusing more on numbers and tactics, and found that the lesson was that you should never let go of the core principals that make you start a business.

If you too are having problems with stress and anxiety in business, try to ground yourself first. Think about what in particular is causing your stress, or even your physical illness, if that’s the case. If you’ve become completely run-down, you’ll need to reconsider why you are allowing that to happen, and take whatever action is appropriate. Health must always come first.
