How Hurricane Season Could Save You Money

If you’re a Floridian, you know that hurricane season started June 1st. At the same time, you may not have known that “Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday” also began. This weeklong Florida holiday runs from June 1st to June 7th, and is the perfect time to stock up on things you need to brace yourself for what is predicted to be an intense hurricane season.

The following items are tax-exempt throughout the week, no matter how much you spend:
-Bottled Water
-Canned Foods
-Baby Food & Formula
-First Aid Kits
-Prescription Medicines

Other items are text exempt as long as they are under a certain threshold. For example, self-powered light sources such as flashlights under 20 dollars are tax exempt, batteries and coolers up to 30 dollars are exempt, and all portable generators under 750 dollars are exempt as well.
