How Do Grocery Stores Do With Customer Retention?

When it comes to the grocery industry, customer loyalty takes on a different kind of importance. Consistently selling low-value goods in high quantities requires a steady supply of happy shoppers that will stay loyal for years to come. With that in mind, which grocery companies are the best at keeping their customers from straying to the other store a few blocks away?

Fortunately, inMarktet has released a report through Business Insider that reveals which companies have the most frequent monthly visits from returning costumers. The report only looked at chains with at least 50 locations. However, many of the winners are smaller chains that you’ve likely never heard of, depending on your location.

At the top of the list, with just 119 stores, Fry’s Food & Drug Stores came out on top with returning customers visiting a location an average of 2.43 times per month. America’s largest grocery and supermarket retailer, the Kroger Company, scored 8th on the list, with returning customers visiting a location an average of 2.17 times per month. The Kroger Company netted over $105 billion in sales in 2017, leading Albertsons, their main competitor, by a healthy $48 billion. Albertsons, for their part, came 13th on the list with returning customers visiting a location an average of 2.89 times per month.
