How Affordable Is Uber?

We all know it, we all use it, but what’s the real cost of using Uber versus owning your own car? That answer is obviously going to depend on where you live, but in one of the busiest cities in the U.S., Boston, the number is actually pretty surprising.

Because of the hectic nature and complex traffic of the city, a lot of people would rather have the convenience of someone else drive them around in the bustling city of Boston. But the cost of that is actually double the cost of owning your own car. Compared to the average annual cost of ride-sharing in other large cities, it costs about $27,000 for Boston citizens to use Uber for a full year as compared to other cities’ $20,000.

So what is Uber going to do about this growing cost? They’re next initiative is to push for the use of E-Bikes and Scooters around cities in order for people to be able to travel and rent out these vehicles with less of a pain on the pocket. It’s innovative, and also something Lyft has already shown interest in.

Considering the nature of a compact city like Boston, why sit through traffic when you can scoot your way through sidewalks and side streets? And while this venture might save you money, just note Uber also wants to develop flying cars in Japan, so I’m sure that expense would be through the roof.
