Give Your New Job A Chance

If you’ve found an ad for a job that aligns with your skills, but you don’t want it because it looks like there is no growth, you’re not alone. Even if you’ve just gotten a new job and you’re already having second thoughts or doubts, you’re actually still far from alone. Even if you’ve worked and studied for that particular job and your skills line up with the job requirements, there are still so many reasons to hate a workplace or company. That being said, if you’ve landed a job (or are still looking for a job) that matches with your skills, give it a chance.

According to Amy Nguyen, a career coach and HR expert, that simple job you’re looking at applying to right now may actually be your dream job. So before you write off a job ad, try to put yourself through a line of questioning first.

Does this job offer elasticity? Can I be innovative and creative while I realize my true end goals?

Will this job potentially lead to mobility? Do the managers take part in helping employees efficiently develop their talents? Is there a strong corporate culture surrounding mobility?

Are there support systems in place for employees? Can I express myself openly and be heard?

Of course some jobs are simply not worth bothering with. But the real tragedy is missing an opportunity to land a dream job because you didn’t give it a chance.
