Gen Z Promotes Educational Diversity In The Workplace

Diversity is an important aspect to any workplace environment. That is why there are so many laws in place to prevent discrimination of all kinds during the hiring process. While this is great for equal opportunity, Generation Z wants more. They’re calling for “more educational diversity in work places.” They’re not talking just ethnicity and gender.

Gen Z is the newest wave of citizens to begin hitting the work force. Depending on who you ask, Gen Z began between 1995-1998, which means now is when these kids are finishing college and moving on to the next stage of their lives. These are the people who want to see a wide range of college degrees, universities, and unique backgrounds to work alongside standard diversity practices. A study by Deloitte says that educational diversity is the number one thing that Gen Z is looking for in an employer.

Most companies always search for a certain type of “cookie cutter” employee that fits the mold of the pre-existing company morals. Gen Z wants to fight against this by creating less “groupthink” and more innovation through a wide range of backgrounds. They don’t want to work alongside people who have the same degree as them from the same school. They want new opinions to sprout through the educational diversity they so desperately crave. After all, it should be less about the degree you earned and more about the skills you hone.
