Emojis Can Make You More Productive At Work

July 17th celebrates the tiny little emojis that we’ve all become used to, but according to Slack they are actually more useful and amazing than meets the eye.

Millions of emojis are sent every day, and millions of “reacjis,” emotional reactions, are sent over workplace communications platform Slack each week. According to the global company, Emojis are not only cute, but they actually promote workplace productivity. Emojis make most of the most important forms of communication much faster and simpler. Instead of having to think and write, you can expedite the process by just clicking one button to send a graphic that describes something that would otherwise take quite a bit more time to send. It may seem silly, but in a fast-paced work environment which requires constant communication, emojis are a real gamechanger. “It changes the game because they’re no longer having to do all the overhead of typing characters on their phone. [They say] ‘hey I’ve clicked a button — I’ve already finished that task’,” the head of Asia-Pacific growth at Slack, Arturo Arrante said to Business Insider.

While Slack can provide the most directly applicable examples of the uses of emojis, they aren’t the only ones taking advantage of them anymore. Xero, an accounting platform, uses emojis to solve customer issues, using a simple emoji instead of a long written explanation allows employees to see to helping customers more quickly on a regular basis. TechSmith even conducted a study which showed that 67% of employees perform better when they receive visual communication instead of text, and they absorb the information faster as well.
