Elon Musk Donates Nearly $500K To Flint, Michigan

Back in July, Elon Musk extended an informal offer on Twitter to the city of Flint, Michigan to personally fund the fixing of their water crisis. Since four years ago, Flint’s water infrastructure has been damaged by substandard building materials, and the only available clean water is pre-packaged.

Over the weekend, Musk and the Musk foundation sent a donation to Flint of $480,350. With this money, the city will begin installing ultraviolet water filtration systems in sinks and fountains in all 12 of Flint’s public schools, with a planned completion date before the end of January 2019. The school superintendent, Derrick Lopez, was “deeply grateful” for Musk’s contribution, and hopes that the improved water systems will help the students return to a sense of normalcy in their lives.

Musk said on his Twitter that he was happy to help and hopes to contribute more in the future.
