Coca Cola Sitting Out This Year’s Super Bowl

After an 11-year run, Coca Cola will not be advertising during the Super Bowl. The world-famous beverage company will run an ad just ahead of kickoff, but that will be all this year. It will also be the first time in 11 years that they will run a pre-kickoff ad.

During the big game itself, CBS will sell ad packages ranging from a low of $5.1 million, up to a maximum of $5.3 million. Pre-game ads also come at a hefty cost, but cost far less than ads run during the game. The total cost of a pre-kickoff ad is about half the cost of a mid-game ad, depending on timing.

Coca Cola will run a 60-second ad just before kickoff with themes of diversity and inclusion, according to the company’s senior vice president of marketing for North America. Coca Cola has a history of running ads featuring positivity and unity on America’s most watched stages. At the ad’s close, they will feature original animated characters and a famous Andy Warhol quote to get the message across.

The Super Bowl has long been an envied platform for advertisers. The biggest companies in America spend millions of dollars to spread brand awareness to tens of millions of Americans.
