Carlos Ghosn Applies for Bail After Fourth Indictment

The former Nissan chairman has applied for bail once again after being indicted for the fourth time.

Ghosn’s fourth indictment comes shortly after being released, and he now stands accused of aggravated breach of trust.

Reuters reports that Ghosn is fighting his fourth indictment over financial misconduct. Ghosn’s defense team filed a bail request shortly after his indictment was announced, according to a Tokyo court statement. Ghosn also faces three other charges, one of which is understating his income. The case started last year when it was discovered by several Nissan employees that Ghosn was allegedly diverting millions of dollars of company money for private purposes.

Ghosn, for his part, denies any and all wrongdoing. He also alleges a boardroom coup which resulted from his efforts to bring Nissan and Renault even closer together. It was recently discovered through released emails that some Nissan employees were worried about their company slowly losing its sovereignty under Ghosn, and that they had been in contact with Japanese officials over these concerns.
