Box Office Breakdown: Haddish And Hart Set 2018 Record

Tiffany Haddish and Kevin Hart stole the box office this past weekend with their break-out comedy “Night School” which comes from the same director as Haddish’s previous silver-screen success, “Girl’s Night.” It’s the best debut of film in 2018 that brands itself as a pure “comedy” movie, beating out other contenders such as “Blockers” and “Tag.” What was not taken into account was that, when comparing “Night School” to other films, crossover comedies such as “Deadpool 2” and “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” were not taken into account.

So how much did “Night School” actually bring in? Reports are showing a solid $28 million over its first weekend, with about $1.35 million coming in from Thursday night previews alone. Number 2 on the list this weekend was “Smallfoot” which starred a huge cast like Channing Tatum, Zendaya, and LeBron James. This animated film cost $80 million to produce, but only brought in $23 million. This is despite the fact that “Smallfoot” boasts nearly double a score on the Tomato-meter; “Night School” only has about a 30% score.

Regardless of “Night School” breaking a 2018 record, all of the information above will be irrelevant by next weekend when Sony and Marvel’s “Venom” releases to theaters October 5th.
