Bezos’ Day One Fund Donates $97.5 Million for Homeless

Say what you will about Jeff Bezos (everyone else certainly has), but if nothing else, the guy does know how to put a charity initiative together.

The Day One Fund, a charity fund created by Amazon president (and pretty much wealthiest guy ever) Jeff Bezos, donated multiple grants to organizations that aid the homeless today. In total, the amount of money granted adds up to a whopping $97.5 million. The recipients include charity organizations, low-income housing developers, family aid organizations, and health services. 24 organizations in 16 states received donations ranging from $2.5 million to $5 million.

The Day One Fund is actually split between two smaller funds, the Day One Families Fund and the Day One Academies Fund, the former of which aids families (and is the subject of these grants), while the latter focuses on nonprofit preschools for low-income communities.

This news comes on the heels of announcement of Amazon’s split HQ2 in New York and Virginia, which some have been concerned would displace affordable housing projects and homeless communities. With any luck, these donations made by Bezos will offset any geographical rumblings caused by Amazon’s exodus to the northeast.
